Christmas Eve

This was the Blakely Christmas Eve, which instead of being at B’s grandmother’s was held at a local fire station.  I think the only reason was because the crew has grown quite large (and keeps on growing!), but don’t ask B about the change in venue… he thought it detracted from the spirit of Christmas more than a little bit.  I couldn’t be there because of work, but I have to agree the flourescent lights and metal folding chairs aren’t quite as cozy and Christmas-y as his grandmother’s warm, log cabin-style home.  But the only thing that really matters is coming together as a family to celebrate the true reason for the season.  (And cute kids in Christmas outfits.)

and running away from the group 🙂

cookie baking.

We made sweethart (aka cutout) cookies with my mom last weekend. She always picks a time when lots of people will be around, because the recipe makes dozens! She does all the hard work and the rest of us jump in and decorate a few trays here and there. We let C in on the fun this year:

(sorry for the bad iphone photos)

Total cookie monster! He wasn’t much help decorating but he did like eating them.

And Brandon and I went out shopping (for other people) but somehow ended up buying him a snowsuit!  I’m sure it will be super useful for those cold, snowy NC winters (??)  Oh well, its cute 🙂

its gonna be good.

I turned 29 this week! And I think its gonna be a good year.

Here’s a few pictures from my b-day dinner:
new favorite thing: to hold your hand (or just your finger) and lead you around where he wants to go. I think it makes him feel powerful!

Don’t know what that look was for, I was happy, really!

We played a little game to see which of the three iphones he would go for.

Funny all three phones have a picture of him on their main screen. Haha, how’s a boy to choose?

Love this expression.

Yup, that’s a new camera in the reflection; that was my present from Brandon. And a 40 mm “pancake” lens which I love. I can’t wait to play around with them a little more.

Scenes from the next day:
I was trying to clean.

and this little one…

was trying to sabotage those efforts!

I’m really excited for all this year will hold. Even if it is a lot more cleaning and chasing around after a toddler!

cookies with Santa

I’m calling this “cookies with Santa”, but really it was “I cried on Santa’s lap, and all I got was a lousy pretzel”.  We went to my parents for luminaries and to see Santa at their clubhouse.

Hanging with my uncle Brian.

Decorating the porta-potty, that’s holiday cheer right there.

“I don’t care who you are fat man, get those reindeer off my roof.”  Charlie liked this house. We drove around for about 20 min looking at lights and decorations; I think he had had about enough, but then this house caught his attention again.  I didn’t take any pictures of the luminaries in general but the wide winding streets lined on both sides look really beautiful.  From there we went to see Santa.

Brandon said C had a death grip on his arm and he had to pry him away, so there was no way this was going to go well.

yesss, love it!

And he hadn’t had dinner yet, so as I mentioned at the beginning, all he got was a pretzel. Seemed to make him happy though! Charlie if you’re reading this years in the future, I’m sorry.  You were really cute though, mini Santa! 🙂

This is just a sort of random dump of pictures from my phone. I’m making a vow to break out our real camera this week and take some pictures, even if they’re nothing special! Phones are great for capturing those little/out and about moments, but I already miss “real”, decent pictures.
Trying to take a Christmas photo today #smallsanta
What have we been up to lately?  Well we tried to take this little guy’s Christmas photo. Doesn’t he make the cutest little Santa?  In our Christmas photo last year he was wearing a Santa hat, and I thought this Santa suit (that I bought on clearance this summer) would be fun for this year.  We’ve taken the picture, but this year finding time to sit down and create a card is the complicated part.  Brandon has been so busy!

With my best boy
That leaves lots of times for me and this little guy to hang out.  We got outside every day I was home with him this week… makes me happy, and he fusses when we have to come back in, so I know he loves it!  He even “played” with one of our little neighbors yesterday (aka, rode on her scooter).

My boys at breakfast yesterday.  They’re all matchy-matchy, but I promise that wasn’t intentional.  I love it though.

Likes to take pictures of himself #thatsmyboy

Sunset walk yesterday, with a little one who decided half way through he would rather walk than ride. Doesn’t know how good he has it… but at least he keeps it interesting around here! When B got home, we went to pick up a Christmas tree:
We got a tree! Both boys were #moreexcitedaboutthetruck

So those are our happenings around here.  We (read: Brandon) got a few Christmas lights up yesterday, but we (read: Meghan) haven’t decorated anything inside.  We’re already doing better than last year though, when we finally broke out a few decorations the week before!  Yay us.
